7 TIPS YOU MUST KNOW IN ORDER TO DRESS CONFIDENTLY
1. FIND YOUR PERSONAL STYLE
Finding your own personal style is probably the most important step to dressing confidently.
Decide how you want to present yourself to the world.
Being aware of your signature style will ensure that you make the right styling decisions; decisions that you are most comfortable with, and not something the society imputs. Thus, allowing you to express yourself with confidence.
Figure yourself out, first and foremost. Figure out what style preference best suits you.
I’ll share with you a few of my favorite styles. Maybe you’ll find yourself liking the vibe of some of these and look more into them!
CASUAL / NATURAL
The casual/natural style relates to those who like to keep their outfits simple and quick to put together. Instead of being a style fit for making a fashion statement, the casual style prioritizes one’s comfort first and foremost.
People who find themselves attracted to this style, most of the time prefer simple designs over anything that is too detailed or designs that draw too much attention to themselves.
This style is sophisticated and polished. Formal outfits are a big part of this style.
The color palette for this style is typically neutral; bold colors and too much print is avoided. The jewelry choices for this style are not overbearing, instead they complement the outfit without stealing the shine from your look.
The girly/romantic style has a soft feminine look.
People who prefer this style usually like clothing with cute details such as ruffles, bows, pleats, and lace. They gravitate towards clothes with pretty colors and floral prints. The jewelry choices are dainty and minimal.
Risqué styles consist of figure-hugging silhouettes, plunging tops, and short hems. People who go for this style like to wear heels with their outfits to add more personality and flirtation to the overall sexy look.
2. DRESS FOR YOUR BODY SHAPE
This is so important! Learn how to dress according to your body shape: find the right jeans that flatter your figure, skirt lengths that best suit your shape. It will make a huge difference!
If you’re wondering what category your body shape falls under, here is diagram of different body shapes that can help you out:
3. FLAUNT YOUR BEST FEATURES
Understanding your body it order to highlight your best features it’s a HUGE game-changer!
Whichever you think your best feature is, whether we’re talking about your long legs, your bust or booty, or maybe you’re in love with your hips, whatever the case; learn how to best highlight it!
4. FIND COLORS THAT LOOK BEST ON YOU
Spend some time in discovering what colors look best on you and what colors simply don’t work for you.
The best way you can figure out what colors make you look like a million bucks is by seeing what colors best fit your skin tone, hair colors, AND what color makes your eyes pop.
Stay away from colors that make you look washed out.
5. HOLD YOUR HEAD UP HIGH
Hold your head up high and own your look! Don’t feel shy about what you’re wearing.
If you feel comfortable in your clothes then you should feel confident walking out of your house without feeling insecure.
6. STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF
Always remember to stay true to yourself! That is the key to being self-confident.
Don’t just wear something because it’s trendy or because your favorite influence tells you to do so. Wear it because you like it!
7. PRACTICE BODY POSITIVITY
More often than not I see people indirectly putting themselves down with the usual “I don’t have the body for that” line. And honestly, you don’t have to have a supermodel’s body to wear the clothes you love. And most certainly, you don’t have to have a supermodel’s body in order to love your body. I know you’re probably sick with the generic “all body types are beautiful”… but that is, in fact, the truth. All body types are worth acceptance and praise.
It’s also important to remember that everyone has flaws. The supermodel you might be looking up to has their own flaws, their own struggles. Nobody is perfect. And that’s okay. That is completely normal.
The first step you have to make in order to start truly loving yourself is to stop comparing your body to other people’s bodies. Comparison is the thief of joy and the very root cause of body image insecurities.
Instead of telling yourself “I wish I looked like them” try saying “yes, they are beautiful. But so am I!”.
Why reserve all the praises for someone else and not for yourself? There’s a saying that goes “another person’s beauty is not the absence of your own”, and I wholeheartedly agree with that. You can always admire someone else’s beauty without questioning your own.
